I wondered if there could be an actual chemical causing the massive obesity epidemic. So did a friend of mine, John Erb. He was a research assistant at the University of Waterloo in Ontario, Canada, and spent years working for the government.

I was shocked too. I went to my kitchen, checking the cupboards and the fridge. MSG was in everything: The Campbell’s soups, the Hostess Doritos, the Lays flavored potato chips, Top Ramen, Betty Crocker Hamburger Helper, Heinz canned gravy, Swanson frozen prepared meals, Kraft salad dressings, especially the ‘healthy low fat’ ones.

The items that didn’t have MSG marked on the product label had something called ‘Hydrolyzed Vegetable Protein,’ which is just another name for Monosodium Glutamate.

It was shocking to see just how many of the foods we feed our children everyday are filled with this stuff. They hide MSG under many different names in order to fool those who carefully read the ingredient list, so they don’t catch on. (Other names for MSG: ‘Accent’ – ‘Agino moto’ – ‘Natural Meet Tenderizer’, etc) But it didn’t stop there. When our family went out to eat, we started asking at the restaurants what menu items had MSG.

Many employees, even the managers, swore they didn’t use MSG. But when we ask for the ingredient list, which they grudgingly provided, sure enough MSG and Hydrolyzed Vegetable Protein were everywhere:

McDonalds
Wendy’s
Taco Bell

And every restaurant like: TGIF, Chili’s, Applebee’s and Denny’s use MSG in abundance. Kentucky Fried Chicken seemed to be the WORST offender: MSG was in EVERY chicken dish, salad dressing and gravy. No wonder I loved to eat that coating on the skin. Their secret spice was MSG.

So, why is MSG in so many of the foods we eat?

Is it a preservative or a vitamin?? Not according to my friend John. In the book he wrote, an expose of the food additive industry called ‘The Slow Poisoning of America’ he said that MSG is added to food for the addictive effect it has on the human body. A study of the elderly showed that people eat more of the foods it is added to. The Glutamate Association lobby group says eating more benefits the elderly, but what does it do to the rest of us? ‘Betcha can’t eat just one,’ takes on a whole new meaning where MSG is concerned! And we wonder why the nation is overweight?

The MSG manufacturers themselves admit that it addicts people to their products. It makes people choose their product over others, and makes people eat more of it than they would if MSG wasn’t added.

Not only is MSG scientifically proven to cause obesity, it is an addictive substance! Since its introduction into the American food supply fifty years ago, MSG has been added in larger and larger doses to the pre-packaged meals, soups, snacks and fast foods we are tempted to eat everyday. Yes, that last study was not a typo, it WAS written in 1978. Both the ‘medical research community’ and ‘food manufacturers’ have known about MSG’s side effects for decades! The most important thing you need to know about the upcoming flu season, beyond the public health messages about washing your hands and staying home if you’re sick, is that taking enough vitamin D to bring your blood levels up to 40-60ng/ml 25-OH may help protect you from getting the flu, as well as other colds and respiratory infections. That means taking somewhere between 2,000 and 5,000 IU of supplemental vitamin D3 a day for the average adult in temperate zones, during the fall and winter. Why is MSG harmful?

Monosodium glutamate is a drug and a neurotransmitter. Every major human organ is now known to contain glutamate receptors. A Canberra researcher reckons the swine flu virus could have been created inadvertently by scientists working with eggs to grow new viruses and test new vaccines. Retired Australian National University virologist Adrian Gibbs was quoted Thursday by the website ScienceInsider as suggesting that a laboratory accident may have created the virus now sweeping the world.

Influenza specialists at the World Health Organization are examining the theory that swine flu – a mix of genetic material from pigs, birds and human beings – is an escapee from a research laboratory. “I bumped into an advertisement for an influenza vaccine for pigs that contained three different viruses,” Gibbs told ScienceInsider. “Not killing off the virus could explain the whole thing very neatly, but it’s only one of several possibilities.” Gibbs, who contributed to the research that produced the drug Tamiflu used to treat influenza cases, said he was ready to be proved wrong. “Scientists are trained to be iconoclasts, not to believe what they are told,” he said. “And they don’t believe until they have really had a good go at it.”

Lingle: WHO discussing raising alert to level 6

Click text for source link : (AP) — HONOLULU – Gov. Linda Lingle says the World Health Organization is considering raising the pandemic alert level to phase 6, the highest level indicating a global outbreak of the swine flu.

Lingle says the possible move was discussed Friday on a conference call with federal and state health officials.

She says it is not an indication that the outbreak is more severe, or more people are getting sick or dying. It means the geographic distribution of the virus has widened.

Maj. Gen. Robert G.F. Lee, Hawaii’s adjutant general and head of state civil defense, says the alert level could be changed this weekend.

WHO officials Thursday said there were no indications in the past day that would prompt the U.N. body to raise the alert further.

What concerns me is the discrepancy in numbers that we have heard, and what is the actual threat level of this?  Different scientists are saying different things – some say it’s not as bad as we are hearing… others say it is as bad or worse.  The thing is… if Level 6 happens, what amounts to martial law could happen very easily.  If you don’t know what that means, a quick google search will let you know, as well as the link below.  Some things are for our benefit, I understand that, but … if things are being told wrongly… I have to question… why? and the next question is obvious – if things are *not* as bad as we are hearing… then why the need for level 6?  Here is a link that I found interesting.  Whether you agree or disagree, it is worth reading.  Click the link below for the full article from prisonplanet.com:

Imposing a level 6 would give governments around the world a perfect excuse to impose martial law, even though many scientists believe the H1N1 virus is no more of a threat than seasonal flu.

On Thursday, Fox News ran a segment on how declaration of a pandemic might result in a loss of constitutional rights. “If it becomes a pandemic, you could lose some simple rights — like going to the movies,” said host Steve Doocy, who completely understated the issue.

Here’s what Fox and the corporate media are not telling you — the government has a wide palette of dictatorial options ready to go: Executive Order 12919 (would put the United States under total martial law and military dictatorship), Executive Order 12656 (allows the government to increase domestic intelligence and surveillance of U.S. citizens and would restrict the freedom of movement within the United States and grant the government the right to isolate large groups of civilians), Executive Order 11921 (allows FEMA to “develop plans to establish control over the mechanisms of production and distribution, of energy sources, wages, salaries, credit and the flow of money in U.S. financial institution in any undefined national emergency”), and a blizzard of additional EOs allowing federal seizure of all communications media in the US, seizure of all electric power, fuels, minerals, public and private, seizure of all food supplies and resources, public and private and all farms and equipment, seizure of all means of transportation, including cars, trucks, or vehicles of any kind and total control over all highways, seaports and water ways, and ominously seizure of American people for work forces under federal supervision, including the splitting up of families if the government so desires. Swine Flu numbers misreported, distorted?

According to several things I have been reading and hearing lately… this could be the case. My own alert from the RSOE says the following this morning:

“So far, 168 people are suspected to have died from the H1N1 strain of swine flu in Mexico, although the authorities there put the number of confirmed deaths at 12. Mexicans have been told to stay away from work for five days after the WHO said a swine flu pandemic was “imminent”.

Here’s one example, from CNN’s Jack Cafferty (click the link for more):

“The WHO has confirmed 257 cases of swine flu worldwide. 97 cases in Mexico, with seven deaths. Mexican officials have reported much higher numbers — 2,500 cases and more than 150 deaths — but those numbers haven’t been confirmed. In the U.S., the WHO says there are 109 confirmed cases with 1 death. Out of a population of more than 300 million people, that hardly seems to be cause for alarm.

And scientists who are studying the virus say this strain of influenza doesn’t look as deadly as strains that have caused previous pandemics. In fact, some suggest that the current form of the swine flu virus may not even do as much damage as the regular flu.

More than 13,000 people in the U.S. have died of complications from seasonal flu since January; and it’s expected to continue killing hundreds of people a week. In total, about 36,000 people a year die from the flu in this country; and worldwide, the annual death toll is somewhere between 250,000 and 500,000.

One scientist tells the Los Angeles Times that just because the swine flu is being identified in more countries doesn’t mean it’s spreading especially quickly, saying: “You don’t ever find anything that you don’t look for.”

I have quite a few conclusions this leads me to, in my own mind.  None of them pretty.  The big question is why, if this information was already known, is it just now coming out? Sorry but as Elmer Fudd would say… in my opinion… “There’s something awfully screwy going on around here!” *done in my best Elmer Fudd voice, of course*
